Pseudo-News!
19 August, 2009
I'm writing this on what has been a pretty awful day for me, so I'm trying to keep my mind off things by writing some silly pseudo-news instead. The pseudo-news today is as follows:
Why and when is T-Rex is Lonely funny?
As I've gone over submissions, I've seen that there are three categories of T-Rex is Lonely comics. To me all three are funny, to some people maybe only one is ... to some people the whole thing is stupid, but if so what are you doing reading this?
The three categories are:
- T-Rex is Lonely: In which T-Rex displays how tragic and lonely his life is without any friends. Perhaps the best example to date is 10.
- Dinosaur Comics Minus Friends: These are exactly how T-Rex would behave if his friends just weren't around for some reason. He tries to solve some philosophical issue or understand something about himself or the world, but instead just comes to no useful conclusion. You probably need to be a fan of Dinosaur Comics to like these. An excellent example is 6.
- Non-sequiturs and nonsense: T-Rex says something that's just so weird it's funny. Often found randomly on the munger, these are those few combinations of panels that grammatically flow and confer some kind of information, and yet are just so nonsensical it's wonderful. There are a few of these, but I'll just mention 3, because, well, it's my own!
Well, that post was entirely pointless. I hope you're enjoying T-Rex is Lonely!
So what the heck is this?
Welcome to T-Rex is Lonely Comics! This site is a riff on two
excellent web comics:
Garfield Minus Garfield
and Dinosaur Comics.
When T-Rex's friends Dromi ... Dromicimimi? Dro... Dromiceiomimus
and Utahraptor leave him, T-Rex becomes lonely, and has only his
imagined audience (you) to keep him company.
Unlike Garfield Minus Garfield, these are not created from single comics; the three frames in each episode are chosen carefully from the Dinosaur Comics archive. The intent is to tell a new story, with a new restraint. This may be updated every Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at Midnight, UTC.
Want to contribute? Talk to Gregor Richards with a link to the munged comic, a title, mouseover text, and the name you prefer to contribute under (can be a pseudonym). If he finds it hilarious, he may just queue it up! You don't have to use the comic munger linked here to make it, but if you don't, please include the original comic numbers that each frame came from; this site generates its comics automatically, so while an attached image is a good reference for laffs, it doesn't actually help Gregor to post the comic.
